Die Reise nach Zermatt

Location

Zermatt lies at the foot of the Valais Alps, in the south of Switzerland, at a height of 1600 meters. Around Zermatt, 38 of the totally 76 European 4000-meter peaks can be seen.

Arriving by car

Zermatt is a traffic-free zone. The access road for private vehicles is permitted only as far as Täsch (5 km from Zermatt). The road from Täsch to Zermatt is closed to public transport. In Täsch both multi-storey car parks and our Welcome Parking are available for visitors. A taxi service to and from Zermatt is also available, as well as the Matterhorn Gotthard shuttle train which travels every 20 minutes from Täsch. Limousine, bus and taxi transfers on request.

Arriving by train

In Brig and Visp the Matterhorn Gotthard railway offers direct connections to Zermatt – the World health resort is reached via the wildly romantic and rugged Vispervalley in around an hour. Zermatt is also reached with the TGV French high-speed passenger train, that travels to Paris and offers connections to London. Through the new Lötschberg base tunnel from Frutigen (BE) to Raron (VS), travel time with the train to Zermatt is reduced by around 72 minutes.

Arriving by plane

Zermatt is just a few hours away from the international airports of Zurich, Geneva, Basel, Milan and Bern. These airports offer both national and international flight connections of the company Swiss and other airlines. Zermatt also has its own Heliport, run by the company Air Zermatt.
