Our promise

As a responsible member of society, we are committed to the sustainability of our planet. We consider environmental, social and economic issues in all our decisions and manage them prudently. At MRH-Zermatt SA, we recognize that the travel industry has an enormous impact on the environment. We are committed to sustainability in everything we do to minimize negative impacts and conserve natural resources. We want sustainable travel to be possible in the future, so we are committed to preserving the natural environment and local communities.

In order to achieve our goals, we have established a comprehensive sustainability strategy for our company, which we continue to develop. In this way, we contribute to the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations and the Sustainable Development Strategy 2030 of the Swiss Federal Council, as well as positioning Switzerland as a sustainable travel destination.

The environment

Nature und landscape

We recognize the central role of a quality landscape and built environment in creating an attractive tourism experience and utilize these opportunities in the development and marketing of our products. We respect sensitive natural and protected areas, promote biodiversity, concentrate tourism projects in less sensitive areas and contribute to sustainable spatial development.

Water, air and soil

We continuously improve resource efficiency, especially in the use of natural resources such as water, air and soil.

Enegry and climate

We optimize energy consumption through conscious purchasing and investment decisions, promote renewable energy sources and reduce climate-damaging emissions.

Mobility

We support attractive multimodal and environmentally friendly mobility options for the benefit of our guests and to reduce environmental impact.

Waste

We minimize waste through prevention, reduction, recycling and separate disposal.

The society

People and culture

We contribute to the strengthening of regional identity and regional cycles. We involve the local community in our projects, promote local culture and facilitate dialogue between guests and the local community.

Specific guest needs

We respond to the specific needs of our guests, paying particular attention to family friendliness, accessibility and food intolerances, and we continually expand our offerings.

Working conditions and equal opportunity

We offer fair working conditions, optimize the employment level of our employees, promote the participation and training of our employees, pay attention to equal opportunities and work-life balance, and contribute to social and intercultural integration.

Guest information and hospitality

We let our guests experience sustainability, inform them about our efforts in this area, encourage them to behave considerately and surprise them with our courteous hospitality.

The economy

Market development

We consider the environmental impact of travel in our market development, strengthen local markets and strive for a balanced guest mix.

Employment and cooperation

We actively support the development of tourism as an important source of income, offer attractive jobs, respect collective labor agreements, act in a cooperative manner and maintain fair partnerships.

Innovation and profitability

We promote sustainable innovation, develop sufficient profitability and consider economic viability as well as environmental and social compatibility when making investments.

Environmental Program

Sheets and towels to save water, energy, and chemicals

The sheets are not changed every day, but you can decide. Our wooden cow “Elsa” is on your bedside table; if you want your linen changed, put it on your pillow. If the towel is in the bathroom, it will be replaced with fresh linen

Soaps, shampoos and their bottles are turned into life-saving products by the nonprofit organization SapoCycle. The soaps are recycled by people with disabilities and then distributed to improve the hygiene of families in need

Reduction and proper use of chemical products and cleaning agents

We use soap dispensers to save on bottles

Supply Chain and Waste Reduce

We work with suppliers and partners who are committed to sustainability

We consider the origin, packaging, and delivery routes of products and buy locally and nationally where possible

We are committed to reducing waste, especially plastic waste, and are continuously working to reduce waste wherever possible. Examples include changing from plastic to wooden room keys and using plastic-free disposable tableware in our restaurants

We recycle paper, glass, PET, plastic containers, aluminum, metal, light bulbs, electrical materials and batteries. We kindly ask you to properly dispose of the PET bottle you receive upon your return to ensure that it is properly recycled

Food & Food Waste

We are constantly expanding our vegetarian and vegan offerings. Whenever possible, we use all parts of the animal (fish bones for stock, second cuts, etc.)

Swiss mineral water is our standard, or Zermatt spring water is available on request

Valaisan agriculture offers a variety of local herbs, fruits and vegetables, which we use in our dishes and drinks whenever possible

Leftover food is turned into biogas on site, while green waste from our florist area is composted

Transportation and Travel

To reduce your carbon footprint, we encourage our guests to use public transportation. Zermatt is car free. We use our own electric vehicles or horse-drawn carriages to pick up our guests from the train station

Our partner, Julen Sport, offers electric bikes for hire at the hotel to explore the mountains

The latest technology

Conventional light bulbs are being replaced by LED technology

To save energy and increase security, we have reduced the hotel lighting at night and installed motion detectors

In our hotel, we use an advanced and automated refrigeration control system for food refrigeration, which also offers the option of heat recovery

For the most part, we do not use air conditioning in the hotel, but we do recommend ventilation with the cool mountain air of Zermatt by opening the windows. Roller shutters and awnings protect against heat radiation in summer

In our hotel we attach great importance to digitalization in order to make your stay even more pleasant. That is why you will find the guest folders and the room service menu in digital form only

Saunas are heated only during reduced hours. However, they can be heated in a very short time upon request

Sensitizing the teams

The “Green Committee” of Mont Cervin Palace and Monte Rosa is actively involved in sensitizing our employees to environmental awareness and responsibility

Responsible management

We donate CHF 1 to the Genolier Foundation for every grilled filet of beef sold at the Grill Le Cervin restaurant

We ensure sustainable behavior in all departments through regular employee training
